3. Shih Tzu
Shih Tzus are friendly, loving, and don't like long walks, so your knees will thank you for picking one up as your companion. Being a small breed, they are happy with living in tight spaces like apartments or retirement communities.
Grooming is probably the only drawback Shih Tzus have, but keeping the fur trimmed in a short "puppy cut" makes things much easier.
